Materials:
3.5 mm hook
Red heart yarn in a light and dark brown
Stitch marker
Scissors
Stuffing
Safety eyes


Abbreviations: 
MC- Magic Circle, or chain two method if you prefer
SC- Single Crochet
Inc- Increase
Dec- Decrease
Sts- stitches
Fo- Finish off
FLO- Front loop only
BLO- Back loop only

Body
1. Mc Sc 6
2. Inc x6 [12]
3. *Sc, Inc* x6 [18]
4. * Sc 2, Inc* x6 [24]
5-8. Sc around [24]
add eyes between rows 4 and 5 about 10 sts apart. This way they look more on the ‘sides’ of your platypus’ head

9. *Sc 3, Inc* x6 [30]
10. *Sc 4, Inc* x6 [36]
11-20. Sc around [36]
21. *Sc 4, Dec* x6 [30]
22. *Sc 3, Dec* x6 [24]
Stuff, and
23. Squish flat. Sc to a ‘corner’ or a mostly parallel to one of the eyes. [see photo]
Hold the two sides together, and using the 'middlest' loops [these would be the back loops if we crochet around normally]- single crochet together. [12 Sc]

24. Using the remaining front loops from row 22, sc around. The first sc made of this round will be the new beginning of round [24]

25- 32. Sc around. [24]
33. *Sc, Dec* x6 [12]
34. *Dec* x6 [6]
FO and sew closed.


Beak
1. MC, sc 6
2. Inc x6 [12]
3. *Sc, Inc* x6 [18]
4-8. Sc around [18]
9. Fold flat, sc through both layers. Ch 1, turn [9]

10. BLO- Sc across. [9]
11. Ch 1 and turn, Dec x2, Sc, Dec x2 [5]
12. Ch 1, turn, Dec, Sc, Dec [3]
FO and leave long tail for sewing


Feet
Make 4
1. Mc, 6 sc [6]
2. *Inc* x6 [12]
3. Sc around [12]
4. Fold flat, sc through both layers [6]
5. Ch1, turn. *In one stitch- Dc, Tr, Dc. In next stitch- Slst* x3

This will give you his toes.
FO with long tail for sewing
